Have the privilege to Pen down the maiden Blog on this Brethren site. By this , I mean ..Site of Brothers..By Brothers & (certainly without an iota of doubt) For Brothers. Its a full fledged Family born in 1991 ; mother being Indian Railways. We live her all the time and I can vouch none others can own and love it more than this family. Vcrc has been known as a talented gene performances proven & living testimonials available across all Zones on IR. I therefore dedicate my first pen here to one such Indian talent.
Our country has always been loved as Motherland (why not FatherLand; Guys i am short of this answer) and mothers have known to be the mould & hold of the Family . Kindly allow me to remember my Mother Smt Shakuntala , who co-incidentally shares name with another Super Lady from our country .
Today admist Covid 19 Lockdown,I go-back and pay my respect to this Super Talent of India -recorded in Worlds History – bestowed as The Human Computer of the World- Shakuntala Devi- recorded in the Guinness Books of World Records-1982 edition. Born (1929-2013) in otherwise not a well to do Hindu (Kannada Brahmin) family in Bengaluru, her father performed tricks at a Circus. Spotting the mental potential of his daughter at early age of 3 years in card games, he started to organise small road shows exhibiting ability of little Shakuntala to solve complex math problems in no time despite no formal education. Her visit to Mysuru University brought her accolades where she continued her academic life. Post education her father headed International (UK) while she was 15. The English media gave her the much deserved spotlight. In one of her live tests on BBC, she was given another complex math problem, she answered in seconds only to surprise of authorities that the answer didn’t match. Later it was found her answer was right and original answer with authorities was incorrect. The World was on fire. She holds record of multiplying two 13 digit numbers absolutely correct in 28 seconds. She calculated the 23rd root of a 201 digit number in 50 secs beating Computer by 12 seconds. Her marathon performances covered the world cities on varied platforms like Radio, TV, Theaters, Roadshows, etc. She was wired for Math and Math was in her default Setting.
Married to an IAS from Kolkatta, this math wizard also had flairs for cooking, astrology, numerology, etc. The N number of books and Novels she authored on these subjects are testimonials to it. She also fought elections from South Mumbai & Medak (opposite non other than Smt Indira Gandhi when not given a ticket from her party); though she lost them. She is also remembered for authoring first book on Queers with a positive side. Though the book didnot become a hit then , but in recent times she has been remembered for writing on the otherwise taboo subject first. The Bollywood also decided to do a movie on her with the Bold & Beautiful Vidya Balan in her Lead Role. Now due to Covid Lockdown, seems its being launched on Webseries. Await with patience and Lets give her the dues which we as a country should have given it to the talent. I would also love to see, if no more Shakuntala Devis are required to travel beyond the Country Frontiers seeking name fame & glory. Lets promote Talents “within” as a policy and generate fertile grounds for talents sailed out to come back.
Lov u My MotherLand
